The Story So Far
Academy Driving School was started way back in 1988 by Pete Brason, who was, at that time, unhappy with his shop managers' job, despite being awarded "Manager of the Year".
Whilst qualifying as an Approved Driving Instructor, he made a point of asking everyone he could about their driving memories, good or bad. He studied all the answers and then devised a training plan to give the best tuition in a happy and relaxed manner.
The recommendations and high pass rate prove that this system is both enjoyable and gets results.
Another proof that the system works was made when he was check tested by the Driving Standards Agency on the 7th March 2001, and given a Grade 6, which is the highest grade possible.
He has during this time trained others to become instructors, and actively helps instructors to improve their business.

The Tuition
We operate a 5 point training plan, similar to that currently on test by the DSA. This gives you the ability to view how well you are doing at any point and what more is required from you. More importantly it allows you to learn at your own pace, and if you are lucky enough, it allows others to help you train.
You can book lessons 'by the hour' or for quicker results, two hour lessons.
When space allows we can also accomodate intensive courses, but for very fast results without the need for time off work try our new 'one day a week' course which still allows us to help you with both tests.
The Cost
This is what most people think is the most important part but we feel the quality of tuition is the more important issue. Remember that the saving of a pound or two per lesson will mount up but is soon wiped out by a failed test and/or extra lessons. Our prices are as follows:
All lessons are - 18.00 pounds per hour
Your vehicle or our vehicle!
Book and pay for ten lessons and receive eleven!
We were tested by the D.S.A. on the 7th March 2001 and awarded the highest possible grade for every aspect of our tuition!
The Training Vehicle
To make your learning an enjoyable experience we use the top-of-the-range Citroen C3, we did use Ford Fiestas but these proved unreliable and both Ford and our local dealer were no help at all! The C3 is proving to be a far better vehicle to learn in as it is small, easy to manoeuvre, and with its air-conditioning, easy to keep cool in, but best of all is its high seating position allowing a far better view of the road
For everyone's safety, and to give you more confidence, the vehicle has been fitted with He-Man Dual Controls.
